Security products are difficult to compare with a row of checkmarks. Start with the job you need done, where the processing happens and what evidence supports each claim.
The PhantomSecure column below describes public-launch targets, not features you can buy or use today. Each public security claim must pass validation against the applicable release before it is presented as verified.
| What to compare | PhantomSecure public-launch target | Questions to ask any vendor |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | In development. No public or private module is currently available. | Can I download it today? Which exact version is supported, and when was that claim last tested? |
| Mac support | One suite targeting macOS 27 or later on Apple silicon. No Intel build is planned. | Is the Mac version native? Which system extensions and permissions does it require? |
| Privacy model | Sensitive analysis designed around on-device processing. Optional product telemetry categories off by default and sent only after explicit opt-in. Account, subscription, update, threat-intelligence, iCloud Keychain and support traffic remain separate, disclosed services. | What is collected before consent? Are identifiers persistent? What happens to queued data after opt-out? |
| Encrypted storage | AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption for Vault contents. Optional Dual-Key Protection uses NIST-standardized ML-KEM-1024 to establish a post-quantum shared secret around the random Vault key. | What exactly is encrypted? How are passwords derived, keys stored and authentication failures handled? |
| Coercion resistance | Decoy Vaults are planned for launch. Plausible deniability will not be claimed as verified until files, timing, logs, Keychain records, backups and error behavior pass whole-system testing. | What observer and threat model does the claim cover? Which artifacts were tested? |
| Threat protection | Planned local DNS filtering, YARA-X scanning, threat-intelligence updates and macOS-native network controls. Detection and performance results remain validation-gated. | Are results measured on the current Mac release? What are the false-positive rate and practical limitations? |
| Deletion | Planned storage-aware secure deletion workflows with clear result states. SSD and TRIM limitations will be reported instead of hidden behind an unrecoverable-deletion promise. | Does the claim distinguish SSDs, snapshots, backups, remapped blocks and hardware-managed storage? |
| Pricing | Individual modules and a complete-suite subscription are planned. Current figures are launch targets, not an offer for sale. | Is the displayed price introductory or recurring? Which features, devices, updates and support are included? |

A malware scanner, network monitor, encrypted Vault and deletion tool solve different problems. Compare only the capabilities you actually need.
Look beyond “local” or “private.” Find out what leaves the Mac for licensing, updates, threat intelligence, analytics and support.
Specific limitations are a sign of useful documentation. Absolute claims such as “never recoverable” or “detects everything” are not.
